After a seemingly endless winter, I was glad to air out the garage!

One of our recent finds was an Allied Fiberglass Astra GT fiberglass body. Somebody please, please, PLEASE buy this before my husband gets any more evil ideas for projects. Please? 🙂 It’s in our eBay store and has quite a few watchers.

We’ve begun buying parts for our Mercury Capri project. When I started cleaning out the car over the winter, I was pleasantly surprised to find that most of the parts were already in the car. It was a project where its previous owners ran out of money and motivation midway through. I’m sure you’ve seen a few of these before! We just got a great deal on a rebuilt Mustang engine.

I’d like to offer a warm welcome to our new fans from Home on the Range in Mantua, Ohio and Mike V’s Corner. HOTR is running a contest. I not only run Sportscar Salvage, but I also do Internet marketing. My page is here: http://www.facebook.com/MktgMarisa. Here is how to participate:

Like and share this post from Home on the Range.

Like both of my pages on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/MktgMarisa and http://www.facebook.com/SportscarSalvage

Then, comment on both of those pages, “HOTR sent me.”

You could win two brand new in plastic Butler Creek Hot Lips Ruger clear 10/22 25 round magazines. The contest will run until April 15th or when any of the pages hits 1000 ‘Likes.’ Happy participating!

Strange dreams, indeed.

February 10, 2013 | Posted in Humor, Shipping | By

The pizza my husband and I ordered a few nights ago must have been sprinkled with an extra layer of fairy dust, or something. We both had the most off-the-wall dreams.

I joked that day on Facebook that a shrink-wrapped combo of WD-40 and duct tape would be a good giveaway item to include in our outgoing shipments. We make sure to send out a free goodie with each package – Hot Wheels, postcards, cleaning supplies, and other car-related surprises. Some people have commented, both on Facebook and eBay, how tickled they are by what they got. “It’s like opening a box of cereal and finding the toy inside!” I love when something so simple makes somebody’s day like that.

Cue up my oddball dream…

A father had bought something from us on eBay for his teenaged son, who was working on a project car so it would be ready for him to drive when he was old enough. I thought, “hmmm, a younger guy – I have something with Perry the Platypus on it! I’ll throw that in the package. Plus, I have some cute Perry stickers I can put on the box.” (For those of you who don’t know, I LOVE Perry the Platypus!) But, when I mentioned it in passing to the dad, I found out that his son despised Perry the Platypus and most cartoons, thinking they were too babyish.

Oops! I then made a long and winding trip to this person’s hometown, trying to intercept the package before it was delivered. Except it was in one of those towns where everyone looks at you cross-eyed because you’re not from there, and even the way you talk rubs people the wrong way. (I’ve lived in a few of those kinds of places in my life. It truly IS the stuff of nightmares!) I finally found it in at the customer’s workplace. It had been delivered before he showed up to work, so I did a quick switcheroo and saved the day. I was hugging the box to my chest when I woke up….to a cat sleeping on my chest.

This is how much I want people to be satisfied with what we ship out. I take as many pictures as I can and add as much detail to the listings as possible. If a problem arises, I also want to find out what I can do to solve it for you. If you ever have any problems, feel free to contact us at any time.

Discomfort, personified.

When asked “Can you be comfortable with being uncomfortable?” in the context of entrepreneurship, I don’t think this is what most people have in mind:

Upside down and backward in a Corvette to remove a wiring harness :)

Upside down and backward in a Corvette to remove a wiring harness 🙂

As for me, I find my comfort in these situations knowing that whatever car part I’ve gotten myself into a pretzel shape to deal with will be worth the hassle in the long run.

‘Tis the season for tax refunds…

January 29, 2013 | Posted in Corvettes, Mustangs | By

If that’s not why we’ve had a larger than average sale volume over the past week or so, it’s because of my awesome Internet marketing skills. That’s one of the things I do when I’m not in the garage – SEO, social media outreach, email marketing, web development, and more. (Have I mentioned that I’m as talented as I am humble?) 😀

I’m supposed to follow up about the 2003 Mustang we have for sale tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed…there is a 1981 Corvette parts car that I have my eye on. The 1974 Vette that we got back in November has paid for itself and then some. Whatever we don’t need for our 77 restoration project is being listed on eBay. Plus, being a C3, I don’t have to bounce back and forth between the metric and standard socket set.

On Facebook, I asked our fans to ‘Like’ a post if they had planned to use their tax refunds on their car projects. Taking stuff out of winter storage may be out of the question for some of us for at least a month or two, but planning ahead is always a good thing. Besides, how many “five minute” car projects have ended up taking MUCH longer than expected? 🙂

Almost there!

January 22, 2013 | Posted in Mustangs, Shipping, Shop Time | By

We’re almost at 500 positive feedbacks on eBay… At 492, we are so close, yet so far away. Our latest customer bought a PT Cruiser part all the way from Australia! (I promise not to demand koala pictures as payment.)

I finally had a chance to dig into the ’85 Capri to see what was there. It was a project that the person we had bought it from started and then ran out of time and money. Sure enough, 99% of the pieces parts we need are already in there, from interior trim to nuts and bolts and the elusive timing cover. Whew! This is a pleasant surprise. I’ve been working on some Internet marketing stuff over the past few days, but the free heat at the shop is tempting me over there. Especially because it’s going to be in the single digits tomorrow again.

I had the chance to discuss entrepreneurship in one of my class assignments. One of our resources was the Entrenpreneur Equation workshop by Carol Roth. She puts to rest a lot of the myths about entrepreneurship. Let’s just say that if it were as fun, easy, and glamorous as it’s put out there to be, there would be a lot more of us around 🙂 Be your own boss? Sometimes, you have to be your own janitor or exterminator. I can tell you with certainty that nobody – not even the most dedicated gearhead who watches every car-related TV show – loves diamond-in-the-rough barn finds like spiders do. Well, maybe stinging insects run a close second. I joke that the garage decorates itself for Halloween.

It’s that funny looking sports car again….

I’m speaking of the 2001 PT Cruiser we parted out last month. 🙂

The last few items are now on eBay. Today, we listed the engine + wiring harness on eBay, plus the starter and alternator. The ECU is being sold separately. You can find all that and more in our eBay store.

I’ve gotten the last few items off of the 1974 Corvette. Sometime next week, I’ll have some assistance in removing the front clip. So, in the meantime, I’ll be switching my attention one of two directions – the 2003 Mustang or the 1985 Mercury Capri. I have a couple of different avenues for the Mustang, one of which I will be exploring tomorrow afternoon! Stay tuned.

Corvettes and Mustangs and pieces parts, oh my!

Mustangs and Vettes and parts, oh my!

Mustangs and Vettes and parts, oh my!

A lot of folks like to hear what we’re up to, and a picture is worth a thousand words, right? In the foreground is a 1974 Corvette we bought to strip the remaining parts off of… It had the two WORKING headlight buckets we needed for our Project77. Behind that is a 1985 Mercury Capri 5.0L. Classic case of started project, ran out of money. Since the car was dealer undercoated, everything underneath is pristine. The original doors and hatch were rusty but the owner had sourced replacements and they came with the car… We got basically everything except for the heads and intake. This one will likely go back together for sale. Too hard to find a nice fox body that is affordable. My husband has some evil plan for it, we’ll see. And then WAY in the back is a 2003 Mustang Premium Coupe that was my husband’s ex-wife’s car. It need a bunch of little stuff. We’re doing that stuff and then selling it.

Oh… Husband… Yeah, Jerod and I got married on December 15th after a little over 5 years together. I decided that if I drop a car on my head I want him to be the one to be there to make sure my wishes are respected. Not that I don’t love my family, I just KNOW that he will do what *I* want. The same goes in reverse. He’s stood by me during this crazy dream, provided finances, countless hours of instruction, and backs me up 100%, all day, every day. He’s kinda cute, too.

We’re working on getting more items up on the eBay store . We’re also actively posting on our Facebook page and we’re on twitter as fastwrecks.

We hope all is well for you!

Happy 2013!

Happy new year from the folks at SportsCarSalvage.us!

Now that we are all over the death virus and have wrapped up the Christmas festivities, I’ve been busy pulling parts off of a 1974 C3 Corvette donor car. What we don’t use for our 1977 restoration project will be listed on eBay here: http://stores.ebay.com/sportscarsalvage/ in the “1974 C3 Corvette” category. Let’s just say that I bought the donor car for what I would have paid for two complete headlight assemblies.

We had our Summit Racing gift card giveaway when our Facebook page reached 500 ‘Likes’ last month. Congrats to Jessica Posa for winning the $50 gift card! When we reach 1000 ‘Likes,’ we will give away a $100 Summit Racing gift card. Like us on Facebook for a chance of winning.

Two Corvettes, one Capri, and three people crammed into a truck for two

November 30, 2012 | Posted in Corvettes, Travel Stories | By

Yesterday was very busy and very productive all at the same time. We (yes, three of us in a truck meant for two grown adults) made a big loop across the northern part of Ohio and picked up a few diamonds in the rough. One is a 1974 Corvette for parts that we bought as a donor for our 1977 Corvette restoration project.

The other is a 1985 Mercury Capri. It definitely has possibilities! We have yet to dig into it, but already, people have oohed and aahed from afar. It’s one of those cars that people remember because they had one back in the day.

Special thanks to those who helped us out yesterday. As much as I’d like to be Superwoman, a Godzilla-sized cherry picker and ambition from one person only goes so far. I look forward to our new projects and will definitely be keeping everyone posted 🙂
