Giving Thanks

We at Sportscarsalvage.us are thankful to be celebrating three years in business. We’re running an eBay Motors sale through this upcoming Sunday.
Our latest project is a rather funny-looking sports car. Okay, it’s a dirtbike. We’re going to combine the good bike with the parts bike, plus buy some needed engine parts. Please oh please don’t allow me or my husband to fall in love with it.
With the holidays coming up, we’re trying to raise some extra cash to make Santa’s reindeer fly a little higher. Check back in our eBay store for sales every so often. 🙂

Pun fully intended….Har har har!
Summer brings with it a host of yard sales, trading, bartering, and swap meets. We acquired a Suzuki LT230 4-wheeler. It runs, plus it comes with a large cooler full of extra parts. I’m working on fixing a small oil leak on the bottom of the engine. Pictures are forthcoming. So is an afternoon of, “I fixed it, therefore I will ride it around the parking lot” but I’ll treat myself to that after the job is done. Right now, I’ve been perusing forums and YouTube videos for some general help and information.
Here is one of the sites I’ve been using for information: https://sites.google.com/site/suzukilt230svault/Home
Happy Spring and welcome to our new fans!

After a seemingly endless winter, I was glad to air out the garage!
One of our recent finds was an Allied Fiberglass Astra GT fiberglass body. Somebody please, please, PLEASE buy this before my husband gets any more evil ideas for projects. Please? 🙂 It’s in our eBay store and has quite a few watchers.
We’ve begun buying parts for our Mercury Capri project. When I started cleaning out the car over the winter, I was pleasantly surprised to find that most of the parts were already in the car. It was a project where its previous owners ran out of money and motivation midway through. I’m sure you’ve seen a few of these before! We just got a great deal on a rebuilt Mustang engine.
I’d like to offer a warm welcome to our new fans from Home on the Range in Mantua, Ohio and Mike V’s Corner. HOTR is running a contest. I not only run Sportscar Salvage, but I also do Internet marketing. My page is here: http://www.facebook.com/MktgMarisa. Here is how to participate:
Like and share this post from Home on the Range.
Like both of my pages on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/MktgMarisa and http://www.facebook.com/SportscarSalvage

You could win two brand new in plastic Butler Creek Hot Lips Ruger clear 10/22 25 round magazines. The contest will run until April 15th or when any of the pages hits 1000 ‘Likes.’ Happy participating!
And now….A message from our sponsors!

My New Year’s Resolution is to do something positive for my business every day. (The obligatory “want to lose a few pounds” will come from wrangling Corvette parts.)
It’s that funny looking sports car again….

I’m speaking of the 2001 PT Cruiser we parted out last month. 🙂
The last few items are now on eBay. Today, we listed the engine + wiring harness on eBay, plus the starter and alternator. The ECU is being sold separately. You can find all that and more in our eBay store.
I’ve gotten the last few items off of the 1974 Corvette. Sometime next week, I’ll have some assistance in removing the front clip. So, in the meantime, I’ll be switching my attention one of two directions – the 2003 Mustang or the 1985 Mercury Capri. I have a couple of different avenues for the Mustang, one of which I will be exploring tomorrow afternoon! Stay tuned.
Fish, houseguests, shipping and handling times…

They all stink after three days.
We’ve shortened our handling time for all of our eBay items to 3 business days. We’ve found that quick shipping times are one of the positives frequently mentioned in our eBay feedback. Although most of our items ship out within 1 business day of being paid for, we figured we’d just make it “official.” 🙂
If you haven’t visited our eBay store, go to http://stores.ebay.com/sportscarsalvage to see what we have in stock. It currently features C4 Corvette, C5 Corvette, 1990s Acura Integra, Mazda RX-7, and more.
Updating our policy means that our items will ship out to customers in under 3 business days. The time it takes to receive items depends on the shipping service selected. We send most of our items via Priority Mail. Greyhound Package Xpress packages “officially” take 5-7 business days to arrive, but we’ve had packages show up in as little as 1 day.

Now that we paid off our truck, we decided to get a PT Cruiser as a daily driver. It’s been a nice comfortable car, good on gas, and surprisingly roomy….so when we saw a non-running PT Cruiser in our area on Craigslist, we thought “This could be interesting.” We recently sold a 1985 Mazda RX-7 and had some extra money to spend.
Of course, it was too nice to tear apart. (This happens to us a lot!) We thought we would play around with it, because we were told that the car ran before having some minor maintenance done. A broken ground repaired here, a sensor replaced there, and the OBD code scanner still throwing all sorts of strange codes. Puzzled, we turned to the oracle in Google. What happened? Well, the crankshaft position sensor (CKP) and the ignition coil plug have same form factor connection, come from same leg of the wiring harness, and branch out of the same place. The CKP and the ignition coil plug were plugged into each other’s outlet. I could kiss the person who made a forum post about this, because now the car runs.
Next up on our agenda: getting rid of the old, nasty gasoline in the tank and fixing the stuck thermostat.
In other news, we parted out the 1984 Corvette that was plagued by extreme rust issues. We are in the process of listing the parts on eBay at http://stores.ebay.com/sportscarsalvage. The car ran strong and most of the body panels were in good shape. Visit us on eBay or contact us through our SportsCarSalvage.us website if interested in any parts. I am glad that the person who owned this car before us did NOT make it into a race car as planned. The frame would have snapped in half the first time he wrecked, plus the fuel lines were nearly corroded through….it would have made for an ugly situation.
Sportscarsalvage.us Stands In Protest of SOPA/PIPA
January 17, 2012 | Posted in Uncategorized | By fastwrecks
While we are not a large company like Google, or an industry leader like Wikipedia, we at SportsCarSalvage.us absolutely stand against the horrible, bloated, ill-conceived SOPA/PIPA proposed laws. The United States has always spoken out against censorship. Now our representatives are trying to ram it down our throats under the guise of a safer, more secure post-911 world. In so many cases the Internet is the last bastion of freedom for the oppressed and the only method used to get real information out of dangerous world and national events. ANY effort to hamstring it should be met with resistance and questioning.
For more information on what SOPA is about, please follow take a look at this article from CNN: http://money.cnn.com/2012/01/17/technology/sopa_explained/index.htm
Yes, it’s a diesel! (And other statements of fact)
January 14, 2012 | Posted in Humor, Travel Stories, Uncategorized | By fastwrecks
We had, at one point, a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD. We did our homework and this suited our needs best (at the time,) so, after scouring eBay and dealing with some, ahem, rather “interesting” car dealers in Miami, completed our purchase. It had the fuel mileage and the towing capacity we needed. Sounds easy, right?
Here’s a hint: if it were easy, I would not be discussing this in the “funny stories” category.
First of all….Diesel. The diesel Liberty was a rarity. So rare that for the first few months we had the thing, every trip to the gas station was a 3-ring circus. “SIR (or “MA’AM, depending on which one of us was outside,) you are about to put DIESEL FUEL into your Jeep.” It was cute the first two times, but every fill-up? By the time it came time to register and plate the thing, I was so sick of hearing about it that our chosen vanity tag was “GRNR DZL.” Greener Diesel in short form. Emphasis on DIESEL. To prevent well-meaning but incorrect folks from having heart attacks as I fill up with diesel fuel.
Second of all…..Towing. We did quite a few cross-country trips then, purchasing cars out of state or delivering items via rented trailer. It would have been OK if booking a trailer through Uhaul’s website actually worked correctly.
But no. The drop down boxes on the pages wouldn’t let me combine Jeep, Liberty, and diesel. To make matters worse, calling Uhaul’s 1-800 number was sometimes just as unhelpful. Let’s just say that I eat smarmy 20-something guys who think I’m STUPID about cars just because I’m female for breakfast. They taste great with barbecue sauce. (“Of COURSE my Jeep can tow, and don’t call me ‘ma’am’ out of spite. I don’t care what your computer system says, I know its specs. I didn’t buy something that wouldn’t be useful for towing cars. May I PLEASE speak to your supervisor?”) I think my personal best (or worst) was speaking to five different representatives before booking my reservation.
We now have a more “typical” ride – a Dodge Ram. A lot of large Corvette parts barely fit in the bed of the truck, so it’s more useful on that front. However, the gas mileage leaves a lot to be desired. It’s almost enough for me to track down that Liberty, kick myself in the butt for getting rid of it, buy it again, and strap Corvette parts to the roof a la Fred Flintstone and his rack of ribs. Almost.
